Novak Djokovic remains on course to win his fifth Australian Open title as he emerged victorious in a five set thriller defeating 2014 champion Stanislas Wawrinka to book his place in the final, where he will face Andy Murray.
Defending champion Wawrinka claimed the first break of the match to lead 4-3 but the Serb broke straight back to force a tie-break, which Djokovic raced to a 7-1 lead to take the first set.
A single break of serve was enough for Wawrinka to win the second set as Djokovic served a double fault at 30-40 in the seventh game and the players traded breaks early in the third, but the world number one won that to take a 2-1 lead.
Djokovic looked to be course to win in the fourth after taking a 2-0 but squandered the advantage with a string of unforced errors, as Wawrinka took advantage and hit another break in the seventh game to take it to a decider.
However, the Swiss man crumbled after missing the chance to break the Serbian in the opening game of the fith set as Djokovic went on to win six consecutive games to take the set and the match 7-6 (7/1) 3-6 6-4 4-6 6-0.
Djokovic will now play Andy Murray in the final on Sunday as he will look to lift his fifth Australian Open trophy.
