Roger Federer marched into the fourth round of the French Open for the 11th consecutive year after the Swiss man eased past Bosnian Damir Dzumhur with a 6-4 6-3 6-2 straight-sets win.
It was also an easy day for Federer’s compatriot Stan Wawrinka, as he too enjoyed a 6-4 6-3 6-2 straight sets win over American Steve Johnson.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga saw off the tough test from Pablo Andujar as the 14th seed bagged a straight sets 7-6 6-4 6-3 win over the Spaniard, while Tomas Beydych overcame a second set scare to book his place in the last 16 as the fourth seed saw off the challenge of Benoit Paire with a 6-1 6-7 (7/5) 6-3 6-4 win.
Gilles Simon overcame fellow Frenchman Nicolas Mahut in a five set thriller as the 12th seed came out victorious with a 6-2 6-7 (8/6) 6-7 (8/6) 6-3 6-1 win.
Another Frenchman Richard Gasquet also needed five sets book his spot in the fourth round with a 3-6 6-3 6-1 4-6 6-1 win over Argentine Carlos Berlocq.
On the women’s side of things, defending champion Maria Sharapova enjoyed a 6-3 6-4 straight sets win over Australia’s Sam Stosur, while former champion Ana Ivanovic also sailed into the last 16 with a 6-0 6-3 win over Croatian Donna Vekic.
However, the French Open is over for Sabine Lisicki as she was ousted by Czech Republic’s Lucie Safarova who scored a 6-3 7-6 (7/2) win over the German.
Simona Halep’s conqueror Mirjana Luca-Baroni is out of the tournament after Alize Cornet saw off the Croatian with a 4-6 6-3 7-5 victory, but there were no problems for Ekaterina Makarova who marched into the fourth round with a 6-2 6-4 win over fellow Russian Elena Vesnina.
