Arsenal retain FA Cup as they put four past Aston Villa

Arsenal made history as they became the first side to win 12 FA Cup’s after Arsene Wenger’s side tore Aston Villa apart to retain the FA Cup with a 4-0 win at Wembley.

Arsenal made a strong start against Tim Sherwood’s side and were rewarded on 40 minutes when Theo Walcott beat Shay Given at his near post to take a 1-0 lead into half-time.

Alexis Sanchez netted a 25-yard thunderbolt to make it two on 50 minutes, while Per Mertesacker made sure the cup was coming back to the Emirates as he headed home a corner on the hour mark.

Substitute Olivier Giroud scored a simple tap-in from Alex Oxlade Chamberlain’s cross in injury time as Arsenal as they raced to a 4-0 win, the biggest winning margin in the final in 21 years when Man United beat Chelsea 4-0 in 1994.

Not only do Arsenal now surpass Man united with 12 FA Cup trophies, but this was also Arsene Wenger’s sixth triumph in the competition as he overtakes Alex Ferguson’s five.

Arsenal never looked like losing this as Tim Sherwood’s Aston Villa never settled into the game and the result also means good news for Southampton, as they will enter next season’s Europa League as Villa’s expense.
