Over the next few weeks, I will be giving my thoughts on all things sport related in a new feature ‘That Friday Feeling.’ In this first edition, I explore all the latest transfer gossip and whether I feel the deal is a thumbs up or thumbs down.
We have got to talk about Man United and the latest rumour of the week is that the Red Devils are aiming to secure the signature of Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, which could cost them £40m.
The 29-year-old Spaniard could also be part of a deal that would see David De Gea make the move to the Spanish capital but if that were to happen, it would be a very bad deal for Man United.
Man united have also been linked to Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels and Nicolas Otamendi of Valencia, who has a minimum buy-out clause of £35m.
Personally, Hummels would be my first choice but it looks unlikely that the German defender will be leaving Dortmund this summer. I don’t think Ramos is the answer to United’s defensive woes and if he is going to cost £40m, he’s not worth it.
I don’t know much about 27-year-old Otamendi but he could strike up a good partnership with compatriot Marcos Rojo should United secure his signature.
I hope to god that David DeGea has a change of heart and stays at United for at least another season because if he does head to Real Madrid, United will have a real problem.
Who do you sign to replace one of the best goalkeepers in the world? Victor Valdes is not the man he used to be as the Spaniard will turn 34 in January so United will need to sign a new goalkeeper should DeGea leave. I just hope United don’t let him go on the cheap and should get at least £30m.
Rumours this Friday morning suggest Morgan Schneiderlin is set to swap Southampton for Man United, but that deal suggests the deal for Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is off.
The Ikay Gundogan rumours have gone quiet in the past couple of weeks as Bayern Munich and Barcelona also chase the Borussia Dortmund midfielder.
I don’t think Schneiderlin is good enough for the Man United squad but I also don’t belive Schweignsteiger would be a good deal because he is 30-years-old and has struggled with injuries last season, and if United’s injuries continue the way they do, he’ll spend the most of his time in the physio’s room.
We are going to move on from United now but while are in need of a defender and a holding ma in midfield, United also really to step up the hunt for a new striker. Harry Kane? I think there are much better options out there.
