Week 9: Man United too good for Everton, Sterling scores hat-trick in Man City win

Man United got back to winning ways after defeat to Arsenal two weeks ago as Wayne Rooney netted his first away goal in 11 months in a 3-0 win at Everton.

Morgan Schneiderlin scored his first Man United goal firing home on 18 minutes before Ander Herrera doubled their lead just four minutes later as the Spaniard headed in from Marcos Rojo’s cross.

Rooney then made sure all three points were the Red Devils as he scored against his former club just after the hour mark as Man United geared up for next weekend’s Manchester derby with an emphatic win.

Man City will also head into next Sunday’s derby on the back of a victory as Raheem Sterling scored a hat-trick in a comfortable 5-1 over Bournemouth as City remain at the top of the table.

Sterling and Wilfried Bony put the early Premier League leaders 2-0 up after 11 minutes before Glenn Murray grabbed one back for the Cherries with his second goal in as many games.

Sterling then restored City’s two goal advantage on 29 minutes before completing his hat-trick on the verge of half-time before Ivory Coast striker Bony added a fifth late on in a comfortable victory for Man City.

Arsenal remained sandwiched in between the Manchester clubs in second place after a second-half blitz of three goals in 12 minutes from Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey saw the Gunners record a 3-0 win over Watford.

West Ham round off the top four after the late goals from Manuel Lanzini and Dimitri Payet saw them record a fourth way win of the season at 10-man Crystal Palace.

Diego Costa and an Alan Hutton own goal handed Chelsea just a third win of the season in a 2-0 win over Aston Villa, while Jugen Klopp’s first game as Liverpool manager ended in a scoreless draw at Tottenham.

Elsewhere, Giorgino Wijnaldum scored four in Newcastle picked up their first win of the season with a 6-2 victory at Norwich, while Sam Allardyce’s first Sunderland game ended in a 1-0 loss to West Brom.
