That Friday Feeling: Who will be the next WWE Champion?

With the news of Seth Rollins injury set to rule him out for six to nine months, a new WWE Champion will be crowned with a tournament at Survivor Series in two weeks. Who will leave Atlanta with the gold?

Whoever it is they have big boots to fill with Seth Rollins enjoying a very successful reign as champion since WrestleMania 31 and I look at some of the possibilities and future plans with the WrestleMania season not far off.

Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns was due to face Seth Rollins at Survivor Series and the No. 1 Contender seems the obvious choice to succeed Rollins as champion and would also be my pick to win the gold.

However as I mentioned already, I think the best way for Reigns to win the title would be to turn heel and become the new Authority guy with Triple H screwing Dean Ambrose in the final at Survivor Series just like what Mr McMahon did with The Rock in 1998.

This would set up nicely for a Dean Ambrose vs Roman Reigns fued for the remainder of year and possibly into early 2016. We could see a WrestleMania rematch between Reigns v Lesnar before the Big Dog heads into WrestleMania as champion.

With Reigns now the big heel and WWE Champion, I would choose the company’s top babyface John Cena to win the Royal Rumble match and set up as Reigns vs Cena showdown at the showcase of immortals.

Sheamus

Another choice could be for Mr. Money in the Bank to leave Survivor Series as champion but he would need to cash in on Roman Reigns who will win the tournament for the Celtic Warrior makes his move.

This would delay as Reigns heel turn as these two superstars would then face off at TLC in December before Reigns would eventually turn on his best mate Dean Ambrose.

Delaying an Ambrose vs Reigns fued would open the possibility of the two former Shield members to face off at WrestleMania 32 with the Lunatic Fringe winning the 2016 Royal Rumble match.

Brock Lesnar

With top stars Randy Orton and Seth Rollins all out injured, WWE could turn to part-timer Brock Lesnar to make an earlier return than expected and choose to have the Beast leave Survivor Series as WWE Champion.

However, I would be against this move as with the fact he is part-time he would only work when he feels like it. I don’t feel Lesnar’s reign from SummerSlam 2014 to WrestleMania 31 worked due to his part-time status. The champion needs to work every week.

If this is the case, he would more than likely beat Roman Reigns in the tournament final at Survivor Series and face off again in a rematch at Royal Rumble or even Reigns vs Lesnar II at WrestleMania with Reigns emerging victorious this time around.

Who else could the Beast Incarnate face at WrestleMania? His Hell in a Cell encounter with The Undertaker threw me off with who he could face, but I think my hopes of seeing him face The Rock on the biggest stage is a long-shot.

Dean Ambrose

I think this is a long shot but what if Dean Ambrose left Survivor Series as the WWE Champion. There were rumours of an Ambrose heel turn even before Seth Rollins injury, but I don’t think this move would work.

I mentioned above of the Authority screwing the Lunatic fringe at Survivor Series and siding with Roman Reigns, but what if the role was reversed with Ambrose becoming the Authority’s guy.

In my opinion, that would be a big mistake. The fans love Ambrose while there are still mixed feelings towards Reigns. An Ambrose turn would not work because I feel the fans would still cheer him and boo the hell out of Ambrose.

The Lunatic Fringe is one of WWE’s hottest faces at the moment so it would be a big risk to try make him the Authority’s guy. Reigns relationship with the fans is mixed so the WWE should make up their mind for the WWE Universe and turn Reigns into a bad guy.

John Cena

He is currently on a break from WWE but with the injury crisis to top stars, WWE could be on the phone to their biggest star to help fill the void. I would welcome Cena back early but he should not be the champion.

I am all for Cena to tie Ric Flair’s record of 16 World Championships but such an event should take place at WrestleMania. In my mind there are only two options for Cena at WrestleMania: Roman Reigns or The Undertaker.

WWE are in panic mode at the moment but I think Cena should stay away until the New Year and let someone else have the spotlight. I won’t be surprised if WWE turn to their top babyface but I would be disappointed.

Who do you think should be the next WWE Champion? Is it one of the above or do you have another name in mind? Leave a comment below with who you want to see succeed Seth Rollins as the next WWE Champion.
