Week 12: Stoke inflict another defeat on Chelsea, Arsenal rescue point against Tottenham

Chelsea fell to a seventh Premier League defeat of the season after Stoke earned a 1-0 win over the champions to pile the pressure on under-fire boss Jose Mourinho.

The 52-year-old served a one-match stadium ban for his behaviour towards officials in the Blues 2-1 defeat to West Ham last month and it was a familiar result, as Chelsea once again left without any points.

Austrian international Marko Arnautovic scored the game’s only goal with an acrobatic 53rd minute effort and while Chelsea had their chances to equalise, Jack Butland was in superb form in the Potters goal, who held on for a 1-0 victory.

Remi Garde will have been impressed with his Aston Villa team’s performance in the Frenchman’s first game in charge as they held Man City to a scoreless draw at Villa Park.

Arsenal remain on level points with Man City at the summit after the Gunners came from behind to rescue a 1-1 draw against North London rivals Tottenham.

Harry Kane scored for the third game running with a calmly placed effort into the far corner on 32 minutes before Kieron Gibbs scrambled home from Mesut Ozil’s cross with a 77th minute equaliser.

Leicester moved to a point off the lead as Jamie Vardy became the first Englishman to score in nine consecutive Premier League games as his spot-kick and a N’golo Kante effort saw off Watford 2-1.

Man United denied West Brom a three-in-a-row at Old Trafford as Jesse Lingard’s first ever Premier League goal and a late Juan Mata penalty handed Louis van Gaal’s side a 2-0 win over 10-man West Brom.

Jurgen Klopp tasted his first Premier League defeat as Crystal Palace stunned Liverpool with Scott Dann scoring a late header for the Eagles to win 2-1 and take all three points back to London.

Elsewhere, Romelu Lukaku netted for the seventh time against the Hammers as the Belgian rescued a 1-1 at West Ham, while Ayoze Perez scored the only goal in Newcastle’s 1-0 win at Bournemouth to help the Magpies move out of the dropzone.
