SummerSlam 2016 Predictions

The biggest WWE event of the summer comes live from Brooklyn for the second year running as we will witness the Beast Brock Lesnar go head-to-head with The Viper Randy Orton for the first time on pay-per-view.

Brock Lesnar v Randy Orton

They both made their WWE debut in 2002 and 14 years on Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton finally meet for the first time on pay-per-view as the Viper looks to end the dominance of the Beast.

No man has pinned the Beast since a loss to Triple H at WrestleMania 29 but with recent events I am sure still playing on the minds of fans and officials, I think it is time for Lesnar to be beaten after testing positive for a banned substance at UFC 200.

The Viper too has done wrong in the past but his comments at Battleground “It only takes one RKO to get to Viperville… no enhancement needed” was one of the best put downs of the year. The build-up hasn’t been the great and I don’t think the match will be much either.

Orton is back from a nine-month injury lay off as he looks to propel himself back into the WWE title picture on Smackdown while win or lose, Lesnar will disappear for another few months. I hope WWE do the right thing and make Orton walk out the winner over the Beast.

Prediction: Randy Orton

WWE Universal Championship
Finn Balor v Seth Rollins

After an amazing Raw debut from the former NXT Champion Finn Balor, the Irishman looks to pull off another shock at SummerSlam with a victory over Seth Rollins to win the newly created Universal Championship.

While it is great to see one of my favourite superstars Balor finally get his call-up to the main roster and start off with a bang with a victory over Roman Reigns, I think it is all happening too soon for the Demon. I don’t think he is quite yet the main event star that WWE want him to be.

Rollins was the first ever NXT Champion and the first man to cash in Money in the Bank at WrestleMania, so it makes sense for the Architect to become the first Universal Champion (BTW I still hate the name of the new championship) and lead the Raw brand.

Rollins and Balor are my two favourite superstars and while I think that the Demon and the Architect will tear the house down, there is only one man who should walk out as the new Universal Champion and that is Seth Rollins.

Prediction: Seth Rollins
