The Week in Sport (28 Nov – 4 Dec)

It is time for another recap of The Week in Sport with highlights over the past seven days including a record-breaking victory for Tom Brady in the NFL and Mark Selby won the UK Championship.

Football

Chelsea came from behind to grab a massive 3-1 win at title rivals Man City to remain top of the Premier League, while Liverpool let a 2-0 lead slip as Bournemouth fought back to beat the Reds 4-3. More week 14 results here.

In the EFL Cup, Ben Woodburn became Liverpool’s youngest ever goalscorer in a 2-0 win over Leeds and have been drawn to face Southampton in the semi-finals after the Saints dumped out Arsenal 2-0.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Anthony Martial both scored twice in Man United’s 4-1 win over West Ham and will face Hull in the final four after they beat Newcastle 3-1 in a penalty shootout.

In La Liga action, Sergio Ramos’ injury time header saw Real Madrid hold Barcelona to a 1-1 in a bad-tempered El Clasico, while Atletico Madrid were held to a 0-0 draw by Espanyol.

Goals from Kevin Strootman and Radja Nainggolan helped Roma beat 10-man Lazio 2-0 in a feisty Rome derby, while Juventus remain four points clear at the top of Serie A with a 3-1 win against Atalanta.

Robert Lewandowski added another two goals to his name in Bayern Munich’s 3-1 win at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund also celebrated victory as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice in their 4-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Enzo Zidane had a debut to remember for Real Madrid as the son of gaffer Zinedine scored in their  6-1 Copa del Rey victory over Cultural Leonesa, while Barcelona were held to a 1-1 draw by Hercules in the first leg of their round of 32 clash.

The England FA have confirmed Gareth Southgate as the new manager of the national side on a four-year deal after impressing during his four match spell as caretaker boss following Sam Allardyce’s departure.

The football world has rallied around Brazilian football team Chapecoense after the majority of their team were killed in a plane crash in Colombia. Read more about the terrible tragedy here.

Snooker

World champion Mark Selby won his second UK Championship as the Leicester man held off a Ronnie O’Sullivan comeback to win 10-7 in a thrilling final at York.

Selby enjoyed a comfortable 6-2 semi final win over Shaun Murphy in his quest for the championship, but was made to work in the quarter finals as he edged out John Higgins 6-5 after five hours of captivating action.

Other highlights from the week included John Higgins coming from behind to reach the quarter finals with a 6-3 win over Mark Allen, while Ding Junhui fell to a shock defeat in the third round with a 6-2 defeat to Wales’ Jamie Jones.
