Roadblock: End of the Line ended in controversial fashion as Chris Jericho cost Roman Reigns the Universal Championship before Reigns and Seth Rollins reunited to take out Y2J and his best friend Kevin Owens.
Roman Reigns looked to add the Universal title to his United States Championship as he faced off against Kevin Owens in the main event, but he was left frustrated by Chris Jericho, who nailed his best friend with a codebreaker to hand Owens a DQ victory to retain the title.
Owens was on the back foot in the early goings as he tried to escape from a fired-up challenger, but Owens began to gain control of the match after sending Reigns into the steel steps and hitting a senton on the outside.
The Universal Champion continued to ground his opponent with a sleeper hold and showed off his athletic-ability with a somersault leg drop, but Reigns began to fight back by hitting the Samoan drop after denying Owens a cannonball attempt.
Owens did eventually hit Reigns with the cannonball but it did little damage to the Big Dog to hit back immediately with a superman punch. The match continued to swing back and forth with Owens gaining a near fall after Fisherman Buster suplex off the top rope.
Owens also avoided a second Drive-By by Reigns to continue his dominance in the match and after the table failed to give way on the first attempt, Owens hit a senton to Reigns to drive him through the German announcers desk.
The champion grew in frustration after Reigns kicked-out of the pop-up powerbomb and went to hit him with the title, but Reigns nailed him with a spear before Chris Jericho made his presence felt.
Y2J hit Owens with a codebreaker to cause a DQ and as fans in the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh thought Jericho finally had enough of his best friend, it actually turned out to be a plan by the best friends to help Owens once again retain his Universal Championship.
After a decent main event in which Kevin Owens was the clear dominant superstar, I am glad that he retained the Universal Championship but I think it is about time that the bromance between Owens and Jericho hits breaking point.
While the disappointing ending to Roadblock suggests Owens and Y2J are back on the same page, but the duo did not have time to celebrate as Seth Rollins came out to reunite with Reigns to send both men crashing through announcers tables.
Despite the tagline “End of the line” it is clear that Reigns and Rollins are not done with KO and Jericho, but I think this fued has gone on long enough.
It is inevitable that Owens and Jericho’s friendship will blow up but maybe WWE are trying to hold off on this fued closer to WrestleMania. It also lines up a possible rematch between Owens and Reigns and next time I think a new Universal Champion could be crowned.
It would have made more sense for Jericho to finally turn on Owens after his friend had earlier cost the first ever Undisputed Champion in his match against Seth Rollins.
This encounter also swung back and forth with plenty of near falls and it was the veteran Jericho who began to build some momentum in the early goings when he thwarted Rollins springboard attempt with a dropkick.
Rollins fought back to send Jericho crashing over the top rope on his lionsault attempt and followed it up with a suicide dive but once again, Jericho swung the momentum back on his side by locking the Architect in the Walls of Jericho.
Jericho finally hit his lionsault after Rollins missed a frog splash and this was followed by an incredible sequence that saw Jericho reverse the pedigree into the Walls of Jericho. However, Rollins countered again into a small package for a near fall.
Kevin Owens made his way to ringside but after unintentionally distracting the referee when Jericho had Rollins pinned. Jericho told him to leave before Rollins reversed his codebreaker into a pedigree for the win.
Once again it was a solid wrestling match between two great athletes but it lacked that something special. It came to no surprise that Rollins picked up the victory but how long will we have to wait until he finally gets what he wants in the form of Triple H?
The fall out after the main event suggests Rollins is not quite yet done with Owens and Universal Championship, but I am more excited for the build up to a Rollins vs Triple H showdown at WrestleMania.
It was the “End of the Line” for the greatest fued of 2016 as Charlotte overcame Sasha Banks in a 30 minute Ironman match to become a four-time Raw Women’s Champion.
It was the champion Banks who began the stronger of the two women after a back and forth beginning, as the Boss hit Charlotte with the double knee off the apron and a suicide dive.
