It is time for another recap of The Week in Sport with this week’s highlights including Liverpool bagging three big points against Arsenal and Tony Bellew stunned David Haye in the boxing ring.


Liverpool climbed back into the top four of the Premier League after a convincing 3-1 win over Arsenal, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic missed a penalty as Bournemouth snatched a 1-1 draw at Man United. More week 27 results here.

Lionel Messi, Luis Syuarez and Neymar all scored in Barcelona’s 6-1 drubbing of Sporting Gijon and thrashed Celta Vigo 5-0 to go top of La Liga, but manager Luis Enrique has announced that he will step down as manager at the end of the season.

Cristiano Ronaldo saved Real Madrid’s blushes by scoring two late goals in a 3-3 home draw against Las Palmas, but got back to winning ways with Karim Benzema scoring twice in a 4-1 win at Eibar.

Fernando Torres has been discharged from hospital afer suffering a serious head injury in Atletico’s 1-1 draw with Deportivo in La Liga in midweek, before Antoine Griezmann’s brace helped them to a 3-0 win over Valencia.

Leonardo Bonucci’s header rescued Serie A leaders Juventus a 1-1 draw at Udinese, while Napoli boosted their Champions League hopes as Dries Mertens grabbed both goals in a 2-1 win at second placed Roma.

Lazio took a 2-0 lead in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final against rivals Roma, while Juventus also built a two goal cushion with a 3-1 win over Napoli in the other semi-final.

Bayern Munich moved seven points clear at the top of the Bundesliga with a comfortable 3-0 win at Cologne, after second place Leipzig were held to a 2-2 draw at Augsburg. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice as Borussia Dortmund thrashed Bayer Leverkusen 6-2.

Kylian Mbappe scored twice as Ligue 1 leaders Monaco beat Nantes 4-0. Edinson Cavani’s penalty helped PSG to a 1-0 win over Nancy to keep the pressure on the leaders, while Nice also remain in the title mix with a 1-0 win over Dijon.

Managerless Leicester bagged a first Premier League win of 2017 on Monday night as a Jamie Vardy brace helped Leicester stun Liverpool 3-1, while Man City came from behind to thump Huddersfield 5-1 in their FA Cup fifth round replay.


Tony Bellew stunned an injured David Haye in one of British Boxing’s biggest upsets with a second knockdown in the 11th round forcing Haye’s corner to throw in the towel, after a suspected Achilles injury at London’s O2 Arena.

Katie Taylor continued her winning streak in her pro career, with the Bray woman defeating Italian Monica Gentili with a fifth round stoppage in London.


Dustin Johnson won his first tournament since becoming world number one as the American closed with a round of 68 to finish 14 under par, one shot clear of England’s Tommy Fleetwood to win the WGC-Mexico Championship.

South African Dean Burmester won his maiden European Tour title, as he carded a closing 65 to finish on 18 under par, three shots clear of Finland’s Mikko Korhonen and Jorge Campillo of Spain to win the Tshwane Open.
