Once again the Andre the Giant Memorial Trophy is up for grabs at WrestleMania 33, as one man looks to follow in the footsteps of Cesaro, Big Show and Baron Corbin to claim a big win.
31 superstars have so far been confirmed to take part in the fourth annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal and among them is 2011 winner Big Show, who will look to become the first man to win the trophy on more than one occasion.
The World’s Largest Athlete incredibly lost 70 pounds as he aimed to get in shape for a showdown with Shaquille O’Neal at WrestleMania 33, but those plans never cam to fruition.
Show and Shaw first collided back in 2009 when the former NBA player became host of Monday Night Raw and after an altercation between the two giants, Shaq would send Show tumbling to the arena floor.
Their rivalry reignited at WrestleMania 32 when Shaq was a surprise entrant in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal as the two men clashed again, until the entire field eliminated the two giants.
It was heavily rumoured that the seven-foot Big Show and the former basketball superstar would meet one on one in Orlando, but those plans were scrapped for unknown reasons.
WrestleMania hosts New Day confirmed Big Show for the match on the 13 March edition of Raw and he would prove how much of a threat he is, when he dominated an over-the-top rope challenge just six days before the showcase of immortals.
Jinder Mahal and the Shining Stars fell victim to the world’s largest athlete and it would take several men to sending Show crashing over the top rope. Show responded with right hands and chokeslams, but Golden Truth were smart enough to avoid the giant.
Braun Strowman would confront Big Show to warn him that he is coming to win the trophy in Orlando, with Strowman already owning a win over Big Show when they two giants met back in February.
Sami Zayn will also be competing in the match this Sunday in a bid to pick up his first WrestleMania win, but Raw general manager Stephanie Mc Mahon would make him earn his spot in the match.
Zayn was not happy after his idol and commissioner Mick Foley was fired by Stephanie on the 20 March edition of Raw, but he would overcome the GM’s challenge to beat Kevin Owens in a No DQ match and book his spot at WrestleMania.
Over on Smackdown, Mojo Rawley was one of the first names to be confirmed for the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal and the Hype Bro has been taking on some intense training to get in top shape for his WrestleMania debut.
A number of Smackdown’s Tag Teams are also in the mix, including The Vaudevillains, Heath Slater and Rhyno, American Alpha and the new Smackdown Tag Team Champion’s The Usos.
The Uso’s were responsible for injuring Chad Gable last September to cost them the tag team titles and on the 21 March episode of Smackdown, The Uso’s once again had American Alpha’s number to become the new Smackdown Tag Team Champions.
The two teams would lock horns once again ten-man tag team action as American Alpha, Mojo Rawley, Heath Slater and Rhyno defeated The Uso’s, Dolph Ziggler and Breezango to score a big win just five days ahead of WrestleMania.
Full list of Participants for the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal
American Alpha, Apollo Crews, Big Show, Bo Dallas, Braun Strowman, Breezango, Curt Hawkins, Curtis Axel, Dolph Ziggler, Golden Truth, Heath Slater, Jinder Mahal, Killian Dain, Mark Henry, Mojo Rawley, Rhyno, Sami Zayn, The Shining Stars, Tian Bing, The Uso’s.
There are 31 names so far confirmed for the Battle Royal and while there could yet be a few surprises in the match, there is only one man I can see winning the trophy at WrestleMania. His name is Braun Strowman.
The ‘Monster Among Men’ has made an impressive start to 2017 attacking Roman Reigns to cost him the Universal title at Royal Rumble and despite losing to Reigns at FastLane, Strowman is still looking very strong.
It is very hard to bet against Strowman because there is not many other names in the match that could win the trophy. Sami Zayn could be a dark horse, as he looks to overcome the odds once again to pick up his first WrestleMania victory.
Dolph Ziggler’s career has gone down the toilet and a win could get the Show Off back on track, or maybe all the hype towards Mojo Rawley could see him pull off the biggest win of his career.
However, I think this one will come down to Strowman and Show who met on Raw back in February in a surprisingly good match and once again, Strowman will emerge victorious.
Winner: Braun Strowman
