Extreme Rules 2017 Predictions

Finn Balor, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Samoa Joe and Bray Wyatt will go to war at Extreme Rules, as they all aim to earn an opportunity at Brock Lesnar’s Universal Championship.

Five men will battle it out what should be a thrilling Fatal 5 Way Extreme Rules main event, as they slug it out to earn a Universal Championship shot against Brock Lesnar at the brand new Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view in July.

There has been a lot of hype around this Fatal 5 Way main event and while it should be a thrilling Extreme Rules, lets look at each contender more closely and decide who is likely to head to Great Balls of Fire to challenge The Beast.

Roman Reigns

It is the Big Dog’s yard now after the retired Undertaker at WrestleMania and after coming back after a vicious assault from Braun Strowman in April, Reigns has been back in form as of late with victories over Finn Balor and Seth Rollins.

Momentum is on the Big Dog’s side but I think it is too soon for a rematch of the WrestleMania 31 main event. It is rumoured that Reigns will eventually meet Lesnar at next year’s WrestleMania and they will manage to hold off on that match until then.

Samoa Joe

After debuting on the main roster back in January, Samoa Joe made an instant impact by injuring Seth Rollins knee and despite a loss to the Kingslayer at Payback, the former NXT Champion has shown in recent weeks that he is a real threat in the Fatal 5 Way.

He made Seth Rollins pass out to the Cojuina clutch in tag team action and also picked up a win over Bray Wyatt and Finn Balor in a Triple Threat match. He is the surprise favourite to win the match, but I don’t think a Joe vs Lesnar match works at this point.

Seth Rollins

Despite nearly missing WrestleMania due to a knee injury, Rollins hard work paid off as he returned in time to defeat Triple H at WrestleMania and also got the better of Samoa Joe at Payback last month.

Samoa Joe cost Rollins his match against Bray Wyatt a few weeks ago and he also lost to Reigns this past week as things have not been going his way in the last few weeks. I would like to see Rollins battle Lesnar again and I think the former WWE Champion has a chance tonight.

Finn Balor

He is many a person’s choice to win the Fatal 5 Way and face Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship he never lost, and even got the seal of approval from Lesnar’s advacate Paul Heyman as the favourite to come out on top at Extreme Rules.

I think it is a real possibilty to win but if he does face Lesnar, he won’t be winning the title and all of his momentum built since returning from a serious shoulder injury will all be undone. Unless he will win the title from the Beast, I don’t want Balor winning the Fatal 5 Way.

Bray Wyatt

In early 2016, Bray Wyatt and his family attacked and cost Brock Lesnar in the Royal Rumble match but nothing ever became of the fued. I think Wyatt vs Lesnar is a real possibility at Great Balls of Fire and it is the match I most want to see from the possibilities.

I know that if Wyatt wins the Fatal 5 Way, he will lose another big match yet again but it is better to be him than Finn Balor. I don’t think any of these five men will be dethroning Lesnar, who is rumoured to defend the title against Braun Strowman at SummerSlam.

Prediction

I think this will be a great match and unlike some other big matches in recent history, the outcome is not overly predictable. Finn Balor would be the fans choice to win, but I don’t think the Demon will be coming out on top tonight.

I am not a fan of Samoa Joe winning and going on to face Lesnar at Great Balls of Fire, but the bookies rarely get things wrong. The Samoan Destroyer will probably come out on top, but I would rather see Rollins or Wyatt emerge victorious.

Winner: Samoa Joe
