Week 22: Arsenal win at Man City, Chelsea send five past Swansea

Man City fell further behind in the title race as the reigning champions were stunned by Arsenal, who left Manchester with all three points after a comfortable 2-0 win.

Santi Carzola fired the away side into the lead on 24 minutes from the penalty spot, although it was a soft penalty after the referee judged that Vincent Kompany fouled Nacho Monreal.

City – who were without Yaya Toure as he is one African Cup of Nations – never really looked to cause any real damage to Arsenal’s defence and they went 2-0 down on 67 minutes as Olivier Giroud headed past Joe Hart from Carzola’s free kick.

It could have been more for Arsenal but ultimately a win is a win and it was their first victory at City since October 2010 and more importantly it leaves them just one point adrift of a Champions League spot.

Swansea did not pull off any shocks in South Wales as Chelsea ran riot on the Swans with a 5-0 win and to go five points clear at the top.

Oscar scored within the first minute and Diego Costa ten scored two goals within 15 minutes to take his tally to 17 for the season, before Oscar grabbed another before half-time.

Chelsea did drop down a gear in the second half but the game was well and over for Swansea, who conceded a fifth with substitute Andre Schurrle on the score-sheet for Chelsea’s biggest win of the season.

Man United got back to winning ways with a 2-0 win at QPR with youngster James Wilson scoring his first of the season, but Southampton hung onto third spot with new signing Eljero Elia on the double in a 2-1 win at Newcastle.

Elsewhere, Dwight Gayle bagged a brace as Crystal Palace came from two down to win 3-2 at Burnley and Christian Eriksen hit another late winner as he helped Tottenham to a 2-1 victory over Sunderland.

  1. I think City will get the win, even without Yaya Toure as Arsenal won’t be able to handle their attack – and if Bony plays, the new striker will certainly improve City’s chances – Swansea will struggle without him though! As for United, I’m hoping we get a win against QPR however it really is hit and miss this season!

Check out my predictions for this weekend and feel free to comment your own! see who gets it closer haha
